Verification of the accuracy of alternative methods of measuring heart and respiratory rate
For an external customer, we validated the capabilities and accuracy of various non-invasive methods (e.g. optical, capacitive, RF/radar) for measuring heart and breathing rates for implementation in a wearable patient monitoring system and fitness equipment.
Certified ECG/SpO2/RESP monitors (MEK PAMO, Yonker M7, Protocol Propaq) were used as reference devices for the collection of measurements, captured by a camera and connected to a computer with a Python data acquisition application. This application collected reference data, data measured by the system under investigation, data from accelerometers and images from cameras scanning the person under investigation, and produced a data package for further analysis by special software for the evaluation of measurement outliers and dropouts, which we also created.
