Linux SOM module EGModule/64 - Raspberry Pi CM3 replacement
Call
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire embedded market faced a major problem – a critical shortage of microcomputers, including the popular Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3. This shortage disrupted the production schedules of hundreds of companies. We decided to develop our own replacement.
Our solution
We have developed a compact, powerful and affordable SOM module based on a quad-core Allwinner A64 processor (4× Cortex-A53):
- full hardware compatibility with Raspberry Pi CM3 – can be used as a direct replacement.
- 1 GB RAM, 8 GB flash, ethernet, audio, SPI, I²C and extra peripherals.
- Yocto Linux support – custom meta-layer for easy integration.
- Production and testing on our own assembly line, with an emphasis on reliability and availability.
Target applications: embedded devices with limited space and low budget – including medical and industrial technology.
Result
With this module, we have ensured independence from supply chains and enabled development to continue even when Raspberry modules were virtually unavailable. The module has become the core of several client solutions where its performance, stability and low cost have been applied. The result is a versatile platform that continues to be used in a variety of projects – from smart control systems to medical devices.
