Evaporative and thermal resistance meter for textile materials
Call
The ability of the fabric to wick away moisture and insulate heat determines whether the clothes will be comfortable to wear. Developing and testing these properties requires high-precision laboratory equipment that simulates real physiological conditions.
TZU Brno approached us with a request to develop a measuring instrument that would comply with the ČSN EN ISO 11092 standard and would be usable in the climate chamber for standardized measurements.
Our solution
We’ve developed a device that measures
- Evaporative Resistance (Ret) – indicates the ability of the material to transmit water vapour, the lower the value, the better the breathability.
- Thermal Resistance (Rct) – expresses the degree of thermal insulation of the fabric, the higher it is, the more it insulates.
The equipment consists of:
- Heated permeable plate, automatically humidified and blown by a turbulent air flow simulating real conditions.
- Electric displacement and active shielding to ensure uniform and accurate measurement.
- A Windows OS control unit that processes data and enables energy consumption evaluation and resistance calculations.
- Compatible with a climacometer to ensure constant temperature and humidity during measurement.
Result
The instrument provides highly accurate, repeatable data for evaluating the comfort of textiles. It allows garment manufacturers to test material properties under standardized conditions and optimize their composition for maximum user comfort.
