HLM-500
basic detector for DIN rail

The HLM-500 sound module is a basic type of detector with mono output. Messages are triggered by the digital inputs of the instrument or by the RS-232 or RS-485 interface. All settings and sounds are stored on a microSD card inserted in the device: changing the message content or settings therefore only requires a replacement, respectively. playing the card. It is sufficient to record sounds in WAV format on the card, no special software is required to configure the device.
The device is powered by 8 – 26 V / 0.1 A.

The device is equipped with:

• Audio output with FM radio quality (12b/44.1 kHz), with line level for connecting an external amplifier or active speaker.
• Eight digital inputs for connecting buttons, connecting to other technology, or connecting a motion sensor, for example.
• RS-232 or RS-485 interface for digital communication with another device (the protocol is public, specified in the operating instructions of the device).
• One 24V/1A output relay, switching during announcements, typically to trigger an external amplifier.

Recommended accessories for HLM-500 detectors

• Recommended accessories include a suitable DIN rail amplifier 2×20 W, which is available at a significant discount when purchased together with the detector.

• It is also possible to connect buttons to the device for manual triggering of messages (if the message is not triggered automatically) or a numeric keypad (for RS-485 detectors).

• An essential part of the system is a 12 V or 24 V power supply, either plug-in or DIN rail mounted. If the amplifier will not be powered from one source, a source with an output of 15 W or more is sufficient; if the amplifier is powered at the same time, it is advisable to consider up to twice the actual (sinusoidal) power of the amplifier. Thus, for very quiet applications, a 20 W power supply will still be sufficient, but 30-50 W power supplies are recommended. If we wish to sound the room loudly, for example with an alarm announcement using the full power of the amplifier or overloading it, we always choose a source with a large reserve – preferably 100 W – in addition to our 2×20 W amplifier.
